"A blessing from delighting in God's Word”- Habakkuk 3:17-18

The sermon for the first Sunday of the year (january 3, 2010) is about Psalm 1. Pastor Mon entitled it as “Pagpapalang Dulot ng Kagalakan sa Salita ng Diyos.” Or ”A blessing from delighting in God's Word” in my own English version. Here is my summary of his preaching:

There are two desires of a person: listening to the counsel of the wicked, or finds delight in the law of the Lord; we choose which. The person who finds delight in the Lord meditates in His Word day and night. He is like a tree that grows with strong foundation, and whose leaves do not wither. He always has spiritual food and water for other people. People who listen to him become encouraged and gradually changes their perspectives. He remains faithful beyond circumstances, and finds delight in the Lord (Habakkuk 3:17-18). Otherwise, a person finds his delight in worldly things. He conforms to the pattern of this world and listens to the worldly advice. People fall into this trap by the influence of other people. They watch them, then gradually wanting and later enjoying what they are doing.

But there is a solution. You are not alone in this struggle, for everyone has his struggles too. The key is to pray, meditate or declare God’s Word by memorizing and delighting in it. A reason why we do not find delight in His Word is we are delighted in worldly things. We choose to have no time for the most important source of happiness. Therefore, we become spiritually sick—easily tempted and giving up. Psalm 73 states that real success is not in material things (i.e. car, big house, etc..), But from the Lord who saved us. We must worry not because God will guide us if we are praying and willing. What is impossible with men is possible to God.

Let us choose to delight ourselves in the Lord. And God’s Word guarantees us that it’s a happiness that the world can not ever offer. Find delight in His Word always, meditating it always.
